I swear by Birkenstocks for 15-20k days in the city, but they definitely feel heavy this summer compared to what’s out there! I actually just moved my black Haviana’s from the pool bag to my closet and wore them out and about yesterday! I can’t do flip flops/thong sandals of any kind though for any long distance, so I love some of the alts you sourced. Those Mius Mius especially are so good, gah.
very important journalism!!!! thank you joyce! i have to add the anine bing lizzie slides have been some of my go to’s for high steppage days — they’re not as low profile as some of these other sandals, but super comfy and great for wide feet!
Does anyone have a recommendation for sandals that work for wide feet? The A Emery Jalen were almost perfect but I also have a tiny bunionette (real term!) that slightly poked beyond the rim. Same thing happens with Birkenstocks.
I am honestly open because I've had such a hard time. Ideally something a bit low coverage but that stays securely on your foot. I'm attracted to ankle straps, but not necessarily. No Birkenstock style.
As a coastal Floridian, the concept of a “city sandal” is so foreign to me. I love so many of these options, but rarely see dark tone flat sandals here outside of the basic black or chocolate brown Rainbow sandals.
I own those Tibi sandals — they’ve been a godsend this rainy NYC spring since they are patent leather with a rubber sole so are pretty indestructible. They have a wider footbed so look more substantial than you would think. Since the cord is finer and you have the beads, they don’t read as sporty as the paracord Miu Miu ones. The elastic does give the shoe a bit of flip/flop action when you walk.
OMG thank you so much for this! It's always great to hear first-hand experience with a shoe. You validated my initial assessment of the style. Does the cord rub or bounce / stretch too much when walking?
Thank you so much for this! I struggle with this as someone who loves nice looking sandals but has high arches and runs after kids all day. You’ve given options that I hadn’t come across yet that I’m excited to try!
Amazing! The first Marcella’s look like my favorite Donald F Pliner style before the quality went to hell— I need those! And every other pair is super cute.
The shoes are all great but I have to say, the graphics and visuals are SO pretty and NICE to look at! You’re so talented and creative. This whole post was a feast for the eyes - bravo!
Came to read this immediately after seeing your Instagram post. Exactly what I love. A walkable and stylish sandal!!
Those Margaux ones are haunting me now, I waited too long and now the black ones are sold out!
The good ones come back!

Thank you Lindsay. I rely on my Birks and Havaiana's a lot, but they just don't feel elevated enough 75% of the time!
I agree! I just snagged some Toteme sandals in the Net sale, fingers crossed they work!
Keep me posted! I love that pair too!

Oh amazing, love this, will check them out!!! Thanks for your message!
Honored to have made it ;)
Hi Joyce! Hope you’re doing well. I’ve NEEDED this post as I’ve been thinking about this all spring/summer long.
re cord trend:
I keep getting ads for this pair from
Veronica Beard.. not sure if they’d hold up to the test of comfort, but wanted to share.

Hi Leyla!! You too!! Ahh yes these are both good options. Thank you for sharing!
I standby what I said !! But have some new options to add to the rotation now too ;)

What type of style usually works? Do you want a strap that goes across the front of your foot?

Ahh such different vibes!

Not for me, but it does bounce because the sole is quite firm. I find them very comfortable. Maybe worth a visit to the store to try them?
There was another Tibi review here in the Fit Happens chat, with a video:

They are so comfy and lightweight and feel better than you could imagine!
Finally a sandal round-up that is New Yorker friendly - we have so many steps each day. Thank you!
