I have a deep appreciation for vintage. And I have a very very deep appreciation for carefully curated vintage. An edit with a clear point of view. A beautifully presented selection, whether on a rack in a store, or on an online shop.
When I was younger, I definitely loved the hunt. I would dig at random thrift stores, our local Goodwill, flea markets, garage sales (growing up in California, we didn’t have stoop sales), warehouses, or consignment stores. There was nothing better than that shot of adrenaline when you discovered something good. Something that you were meant to have.
As I’ve gotten older, busier, and my taste has grown-up and evolved, I love coming across sellers who have a distinct lens for their vintage.
I wanted to start sharing some of my favorite vintage edits here, starting with Sobrara’s in New York. It happens to be in my neighborhood, just down the street from my apartment, so I know I will be frequenting it regularly - just to eye what they get in each week. I was ecstatic to walk by last week to discover that it had just opened - the beautiful racks of special things and accessories spoke to me through the glass doors. Today when I popped by, I saw lots of new tempting goodies.
When I walked by for the first time, I knew it was something special, and through a bit of research, came to realize it was the new store by Kathleen Sorbara, who is behind Chickee’s Vintage.
A little side-note: the space used to be the Beautiful Dreamers (now Oroboro) store, years ago. When they moved to their space in Manhattan, the old space was occupied by other businesses, and everytime I’d walk by, I’d feel a slight sadness, and long for a store that I could be inspired by, or offer items I could only dream about, and now it’s happened!
Sorbara’s carries a beautiful selection of Women’s and Men’s apparel and accessories: denim, amazing graphic tees, chic pieces from brands like Calvin Klein, Hermes, Donna Karan, Helmut Lang, Celine, Ralph Lauren, Max Mara, Jil Sander, and incredible shoes.

Their website is great, but a lot of the pieces I saw in the store are not available online. Makes the case for a good stroll in Williamsburg, for some really good vintage.
