I love packing for a trip, especially when it’s to somewhere warm and relaxing. I usually start with my foundational pieces - this time, it’s going to be lots of boxer shorts, denim, easy pants, stripes, tanks, tees, and a versatile dress that can take me from day to night. And then as always, I have fun thinking through the accessories and consider how they will function in the different scenarios.
I always like to be prepared, but at the same time, I feel like I aim to wear everything I bring at least once, if not multiple times.
As much as I wish I could be a carry-on-only girl, I’ve just come to terms with that not happening for a while. I love my Patagonia black hole wheeled duffle - I find that these soft-sided bags fit more, and I love to shop on any and all trips, so it’s important! Then I always prefer a large open tote as my carry-on. I keep these pouches organized with all the little things - like my chargers and cords, airplane kit, things for the kiddos. I have been using this amazing moisturizer recommended by my dermatologist, and I’m happy it’s not a heavy bottle, so it’s easy to take along. My friend Nikki was wearing these pants from her brand Kule, and swore that they double as the most comfortable airplane pants. The fabric is so soft and stretchy, and garment dyed for a subtle washed look, and they are chic. I like a long sleeved tee on a plane ride, since it’s always chilly onboard, and this Kule striped tee is a favorite. I love the wash of these jeans from Alex Mill, as another pant option for the trip. These soft ballet flats by Le Monde Beryl are made from a buttery calfskin - I adore the cut of the topline, super flattering on.
Lots of sun and sand. I always love to wear a simple one-piece that can double as a tank top, and throw on a pair of denim shorts or these silk boxers by Comme Si. This oversized pocket tee has been a staple in my closet, and it’s just the right weight cotton. I’ll be throwing this baseball cap in my bag and wearing this sunscreen by Tower 28, it’s moisturizing and has the perfect natural finish - I’m obsessed. Always love an oversized sunglass. Now for the bags - I really enjoy a pop of color, and green has been feeling fresh. These crocheted bags are a fun way to integrate some color into an otherwise neutral outfit. I love my Bode tote, but these options by Electric and Rose and Clare V are great too. For footwear, I prefer slides as I’ll be running around after my kids and can’t be bothered with buckles or lacing anything up. Comfort is a key priority. I love a chic flip flop, don’t go on any beach trips without my waterproof slides, and have my eyes on these Emme Parsons pool slides - they are the rubberized version of the Bari sandal that I already have.
Days for lounging by the pool or exploring town. I like to keep things easy, and this Le Set tee is the perfect fit. This ribbed tank top is a uniform piece in my wardrobe - I own multiples and I love how the straps are slightly cutaway, it’s a perfect layering tank. I adore these Comme Si striped poplin pants - they are beachy, comfy, and bring in a little contrast to my otherwise monochromatic pieces. I love the subtle sheen of these boxer shorts, they feel elevated and a good pair to dress up too. This complexion stick by Ilia has become my go-to. It’s got the most perfect buildable coverage, and feels like skincare vs. makeup. I will say, I’ve gotten more compliments on how my skin looks since using it! These Brigitte Tanaka embroidered organza bags are like candy for me. They are sheer and magical, and make great gifts. I also have the baguette tote, and will likely collect more. My friend Jess recently gave me a cute sardine pouch which makes a perfect complement to my caviar pouch. I’ve had these sunnies for years, and buy them in different colors because I love the shape so much.
For the fancier moments, I always pack a good dress that can work for day or night. I’ve had my eye on these sunglasses and may cave in now that it’s warming up. I love this Ozma silk bandana, it can work as a headscarf, or tied around my bag. I discovered these fragrances by Folie à Plusiers and the bottles are hand-painted glass. I have had this Hereu leather shopper for years, and love how it feels like an elevated market tote. It has a lining to keep things secure. For shoes, these Emme Parsons sandals have a beautiful gold toe loop, which feels like jewelry. Any flip flop can work too. And always nice to have a closed-toe option.
Now, breaking down the flip flops. There are some really nice options available, and here are my favorites.
Left to right
This rubber pair is a great price point, and perfect for the beach, pool and everything in between. I have multiple pairs of the classic shape, and really love this new square toe shape - it feels modern.
This option by Madewell cost a lot less than they look - I love the shiny footbed and the soft leather thong strap. The white ones bring a nice pop to any look. (I also purchased the black).
Tkees is known for their soft footbed, and they just released this square toe shape. They are extra comfy, with padding just where you need it, and they also look elevated for the times you don’t want to look like you walked off the beach.
Finally, these ones by The Row are more spendy, but a girl can dream.
Please let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like to see covered, I’d love to hear from you!
Thank you Alex!! 😚 I’m enjoying this format, much more than I thought I would! 🖤🖤🖤
I love that you are recommending the Patagonia duffel. I have one and love it so much. I somehow feel more organized packing in it. Very durable too.
