Summer is here, as are vacations, al fresco dinners, and strolls in the city. I love sandals, though I mostly stick to flat sandals because comfort is so key with footwear in my day-to-day life. I’ve had too many days ruined wearing the wrong shoes. So I’ve had my eyes peeled for sandals that look elevated and chic enough to pair with boxer shorts, but allow me to freely go with where my day takes me.
I rounded up my favorite options from my research and shopping to share here. These are all versatile sandals - many of which can go from day-to-night, and can pair just as easily with a pair of denim shorts or a chic maxi dress for an evening out. I also took into consideration the way the footbeds and outsoles feel, as that plays a big part in the comfort.
Chunky Sandals

These are mostly of the moulded footbed construction, which are quite comfortable. I always love a clean minimal upper, but enjoy having an interesting footbed construction to play with proportion. I wear the Emme Parsons slide and just got the Pool slide version of this sandal as well. Can’t wait to take them on vacation. I love the variation of the thinner delicate straps and the chunkier thicker straps, both have a high rotation in my wardrobe.
Minimalist Thongs

Nothing says summer more than a very bare sandal. I love a simple thong or a toe post sandal, and a lot of these have a nice padded footbed, which makes walking around the city much more enjoyable. I love the A.Emery constructions, which are nice and cushioned. The Madewell thong is also padded and has an adjustable buckle. The
thong is made using an opanka construction, which is one piece of leather that makes it really comfortable. I’ve also been loving these square-toe shapes, they are feeling modern and fresh but still feel classic and timeless at the same time.Strappy Slides

Slides are the best. Who doesn’t love a shoe you can just slip your foot into, and run out the door? And add a refined upper and construction, and you’re ready for anything. I was shopping for a dressier sandal for a recent event, and I had friends asking me for suggestions for that same end-use. I ended up going with these A.Emery slides, the delicate straps felt chic and the pillowy footbed is made to withstand city walking. A lot of times, thin straps can be uncomfortable but I found that the straps were perfectly positioned and I walked around the city all day with no issues. I also love how minimal and bare the Toteme pair are. The Dolce Vita sandals are also surprisingly comfortable for the strappy upper. I have my eye on the Emme Parsons Laurie sandal, such a great option for a true evening sandal, with the gold toe post.
Tie-Up Sandal

These sandals are sophisticated and elevated, and add an instant refinement to any look. I love them as much with cut-off denim shorts, or a more tailored look. What I love about Amanu sandals are that they can help customize a fit of a sandal to your foot.
Color Pop Sandals
I gravitate towards wearing color in my accessories - it’s always an easy way to add something unexpected to a look. I love the red A.Emery pair, with the soft suede footbed contrasting the leather upper. The Amanu sandal has delicate multicolored straps. I also have my eye on the Margaux wrap sandal that comes in a bunch of beautiful colors. And green is having a moment, as seen in both A.Emery options.
Hope this roundup helps you find whatever might be missing in your Summer wardrobe. It’s one of my favorite things to shop for, as it’s always tricky to find the right look, the right fit and comfort, and the pricepoint that makes sense. I love to hear your thoughts and feedback, and I’d love to hear what you’d like another deep dive on.
