It’s already August, while the Summer is flying by, I’ve been trying to slow down to enjoy the every-day moments and savor the last few weeks while the kids are in Summer-break-mode. It takes a lot of intention for me to really take things slow, to take a deep breath, and appreciate what’s around me, and relish in the moment.
There are a few things that play a simple but important role in elevating my daily life and rituals. I always appreciate items that can make the mundane feel a little more joyful. While you may not need any of these things below, I hope that this can inspire you to carve out a little bit of everyday happiness for yourself.
I like to carry hand cream (along with many other things like band-aids, bug repellent, and hand sanitizer) in my essentials kit with me everywhere I go, and the cute shape makes keeping it with me more satisfying. I also adore the little carrying pouch (one can never have too many bags) that also doubles as a jewelry bag when I’m on the go. I appreciate how the gel-like texture absorbs quickly into the skin and feels instantly balanced. I find the lightly herbal fragrance to be perfect and refreshing. Superegg is an incredible plant-based skincare line that I’ve been using for a year, and I love that it’s now stocked at my friend Caroline’s newly launched beauty site House of San San.

I collect bags of all shapes and sizes. And when LL Bean released it’s new mini boat tote, I have to admit, I ordered a few. They’re fun and easy, inexpensive enough so you can have them in different colors if that suits you. I love personalizing them for friends.
I love fun sculptural and organic shapes, especially when it comes to jewelry. When I get a glance of my hand when I’m wearing this hand-blown Venetian glass ring by Casa Ayllón, a wave of delight comes over me. (As my daughter likes to say, “This ring is so satisfying.”) The bubble shape feels child-like and chic and elevated at the same time.
I have a deep appreciation for objects that are purposeful and multifunctional. Like a Swiss-army knife, but a little safer. This vintage Judith Leiber comb was an eBay find for under $5 when I purchased it. I was inspired when I saw
sporting his comb around his neck, layered with several other necklaces. I had been looking for an object to convert into a pendant, that didn’t cost an arm and a leg, so I was happy to see that there are many of these available on eBay.I realized that I haven’t worn a heel in many months, and have amassed quite a range of of ballet flats in the past couple of years. This silver pair by Freda Salvador caught my eye with it’s woven texture and shine. I am loving the square-toe shape, which makes it feel modern and unexpected.
A little reminder to enjoy the remaining days of Summer.
I’d love to know: what are some unexpected things that spark joy for you?

Loved this Joyce! I’ve had the mini JL comb in mind for some time now and you inspired me to finally pull the trigger.
These are all so good! I’m ordering that ring. And I have those silver flats 🥰🥰🥰
